Brevard Public Schools Agrees to a Three-Year Collective Bargaining Contract

Brevard County, Fla. – Brevard Public Schools has tentatively secured a three-year agreement with the teachers’ union, marking a significant milestone in labor relations. Negotiations concluded Tuesday night, resulting in the multi-year contract agreement that includes a 2% salary increase for the 2025-2026 school year, with additional 2% raises in both 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years.

“This is a meaningful investment in our teachers,” said Dr. Mark Rendell Superintendent of Brevard Public Schools. “By securing a multi-year contract we’re reaffirming the deep value we place on educators and their lasting impact on student success.”

In addition to salary increases, teachers will see notable changes to their healthcare costs with improvements to both the Gold and Silver health insurance plans.

“We understand how rising healthcare costs are putting real pressure on families. That’s why we’ve made it a priority to invest in meaningful, targeted improvements,” said Ryan Dufrain, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.

Healthcare Improvements

Gold Plan:

  • Deductible reduction of $250 for individuals and $500 for families when completing the annual physical and health assessment.

  • Lower co-pays for primary care, mental health, and specialist visits for tier one.

Silver Plan:

  • Deductible reduction of $125 for individuals and $250 for families with completion of the annual physical and health assessment for schedule one.

  • $0 copay for emergency room visits after deductible is met.

“These healthcare improvements provide greater access to care, more affordable coverage, and put $2 million back into the pockets of our teachers—an important step forward with more improvements still to come,” said Matt Susin, School Board Vice Chairman.

Additional Contract Highlights

  • Advanced Degrees: All bargaining members with an advanced degree will receive a supplement, no matter what their certification area.

  • School Psychologists: In addition to advanced degree pay, school psychologists will receive a $6,200 supplement.

“This agreement reflects how much we value the dedication and expertise our teachers bring every day,” said Gene Trent, School Board Chair. “From recognizing advanced degrees, to supporting our school psychologists, and easing healthcare costs, we’re proud to stand behind those who shape our students’ futures.”
